Vanishing Point 3 – The Land Hang
- Cnr Bligh & Talbragar Sts
This installation by Julie Montgarrett with the assistance of Clytie Smith and Vic McEwan, brings to Dubbo the colours and histories of the millions of black swans and other birds that once occupied the river country across south-eastern Australia before the relentless demands of industrial scale development. This textile installation encloses many things – the unseen energies and sounds of this place that recalls absent creatures. It is imprinted with the rhythms and traces of water, endangered life-forms, sediments and patterns of complex ecologies. This textile is as tenuous and fragile as the river and its’ creatures own survival – the resilience of both is strained to breaking point.
